En Antártica convergen tanto los meridianos como la voluntad de distintas naciones del mundo, en un acuerdo de paz y colaboración único en el Planeta, que eleva a la Antártica en símbolo de integración universal.

La expedición "Integración Antártica" se ha propuesto retratar esa utopía, mediante el registro fotográfico y audiovisual de la actividad que desarrollan las Bases de distintos países en las Shetland del Sur.

Ese registro se realizará desde la perspectiva discreta, profunda y no invasiva de una expedición en kayak.

Para dar comienzo a la expedición, el 16 de enero los kayakistas Roger Rovira, Exequiel Lira y Cristian Donoso se embarcarán en el transporte AP-41 "Aquiles", de la Armada de Chile, para cruzar el Mar de Drake con destino al archipiélago Shetland del Sur.

Una vez allá, los expedicionarios iniciarán una travesía autosuficiente en kayak que integrará las islas Snow (cabo Conway), Livingstone, Greenwich, Media Luna, Robert, Nelson, Rey Jorge (Punta Merville) y otras islas menores.

Se trata de la primera travesía en kayak que unirá varias islas de ese archipiélago. Adicionalmente, con esta expedición, Cristian Donoso consolida su marca del humano que más kilómetros ha navegado kayak en el continente blanco.

Esta expedición es apoyada por la Armada de Chile, SUDA, Kokatat, Prijon, Patagonia, Ingeniería en Expediciones y Ecoturismo de la Universidad San Sebastian, la Sección Geografía de la Sociedad Chilena de Historia y Geografía, y Expenews.

Antarctic Integration

“Antarctic Integration” takes its name from the unique international environment of the area, where so many nations converge in a single place in peaceful collaboration, elevating Antarctica as a symbol of universal integration.

The Antarctic Integration expedition team will set out to be the first paddlers to traverse Antarctica’s South Shetland Islands by kayak. They plan to record the natural elements and the human presence in the territory for a forth coming documentary. This record will be made from the discreet, deep and non-invasive perspective of a kayak expedition.

To begin the expedition, on January 16th, kayakers Roger Rovira (Catalonia), Exequiel Lira (Chile) and expedition leader Cristian Donoso (Chile) will embark on the AP- 41 Chilean Navy transport “Aquiles” to cross the Drake Sea to the South Shetland.

Once there, the expedition team will begin a self-sufficient kayak trip to explore all the main islands of the archipelago: Snow (Cape Conway), Livingstone, Greenwich, Half Moon, Robert, Nelson, King George (Merville Point) and other smaller islands.

This is the first major kayak expedition that will be undertaken in this archipelago. The paddlers will likely cover over 150 miles during the expedition, and with that Christian Donoso will have kayaked more miles in Antarctica than anyone else.
